When students may have learning, or behavioral challenge, it is important to establish a learning plan. This plan outlines changes and/or modifications from the current classroom strategies. It also defines the amount of time, that changes in the student’s performance should be expected.
1. Action Plan
This will be a plan for learning strategy modification to improve student performance. This action will be communicated and explained to the parents by the teacher. The changes will be reviewed within a relatively short period of time for effectiveness.
2. Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Should the Action Plan fail to lead to any improvement in performance the Director of Instruction will meet with parents to coordinate an evaluation by an outside specialist (parent expense). The outcome of this significant process will be an IEP that must be strictly adhered to.
QSIS does not have a formal special education program. We do not have a special education teacher or speech pathologist on staff. We accommodate students special needs within the mainstream classroom, appropriate age level curriculum, and modifications and individualized support as explained above.
We believe in meeting individual needs with an attitude of flexibility and creativity in our approach. By working closely with parents, teachers, and students, we work as a team to problem solve. Our small school feeling is often beneficial to students who feel the more relaxed, comfortable environment and greater individualized attention. Our small class sizes allow for more individualized attention and differentiated learning.
